The past few months have gone in a bit of a whirl if I’m honest. One minute we were standing on a vacant piece of land, the next we’re moving in to our freshly built house. If I thought the hard work was over, I was wrong! It’s only just beginning {sigh}. So to date we’ve moved out of rental, done the bond clean (horrid, horrid job), moved in to new house, decorated one room and had the laundry fitted out. We still haven’t:- decorated, tiled splash back in laundry, finished lights, concreted alfresco area, landscaped garden, put side fence up, had shutters fitted. So just a bit to do then :) But……..WE HAVE OUR NEW HOME! It feels amazing! The hard work is worth it. So here’s a few snap shots, all Iphone as I’ve been a tad lax in the camera department, hey ho I’ll get back to it eventually.

We really are so much closer to finally being able to move in. Hurrah, we did it. We have ‘almost’ built our own home. I think we’ve underestimated exactly how much extra work there is to do. It’s exciting and scary. We’ve still got electrical fittings to fit, a tap to change, some decorating {boys rooms mostly}, furniture to source, gardening – the list seems endless. It really is quite daunting.

Today the flooring is being finished. Pele and Lenny have done an awesome job. We worried about having bamboo flooring, but it looks amazing. Thank you SO much guys! We got our bamboo from Bamboo Australia in Belli Park, so a nice local company too. My lovely hubby also gave in and, {deep breath} I GOT MY PENDANTS LIGHTS! They are totally gorgeous and very much worth the $$$’s {although Mark would beg to differ}. I’m pretty sure he’ll grow to love them as much as I do, eventually. You can see them HERE. They’re going to look lovely in the kitchen.

So the next blog post be when we’ve moved in ~ eek, it hardly seems real.

‘Where words fail, music speaks’ ~ Hans Christian Andersen

Anyone that knows me, knows I am passionate about a few things; vintage clothing, heels, food, ‘geekery’ {no, it’s not a word but it should be} and above all else music. Music is a huge part of my world. It helps me get through my day, my editing and it inspires me for sessions. It is always therefore such a pleasure to be asked to help create a vision for music artists. I have worked with some absolutely incredible Australian artists, so it was an honour to be contacted by a very successful music manager from Melbourne and asked to work with Australian singer/songwriter Alys Longmate. Alys is an amazing music artist and such a beauty-full person who has recently become an ambassador for Martin Guitars {apparently that’s like Nikon choosing me to represent them ~ and supplying me with their newest cameras, I can only dream. C’mon Nikon I’m worth it}!

Here are just a few from our time together. A huge thank you to the lovely folk at the Metal Tiger Tea Emporium for allowing us to have our session at their wonderful cafe in Noosa, and also to the beautiful Poets Cafe in Montville. I cannot wait to work with Alys again and watch her career grow. You can follow Alys on Facebook and also watch her new acoustic videos HERE

Oh yes, we are ‘beige’ all the way through the house, and I’m loving it! Cannot believe the painting is almost finished. Next stop the final fit out and fix then I guess it’s time for us to take over and start making it ‘pretty’. It seems so strange that we are at this stage of the build. A few months ago, we stood on our vacant block dreaming of what ‘could’ be. Today we stand and gaze up at our ‘home’. Feeling very grateful right now and excited to see the final fixtures in place as well as the flooring and lights. Our planning has gone in to overdrive, though I really never, ever want to discuss down lights with anyone ever again, or bamboo flooring for that matter ;) I’m beginning to wonder whether Mark and I will ever have a conversation that doesn’t involve ‘the build’. Holiday needed perhaps?

It feels like such a long time from when I last picked up my cameras to do a session. With the house build, rain, rain and more rain everything, including sessions, has been delayed. It was therefore just fabulous to see the sun shining for Miss M’s session at gorgeous Peregian Beach. Miss M is such an amazing little girl, so talented at such a young age. I’ve listened to her sing on several occasions now, and all I can say is WOW ~ goosebumps! Miss M loves musical theatre, and with her talent and families support, I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of her on the stage in the future.

Thank you Miss M {and mum} for a lovely afternoon in the sunshine. Let’s hope the sun returns to the Sunshine Coast soon as it’s pretty dismal at the moment.

Ah goodness we really are so close! It only seems like yesterday we were standing on the vacant block, dreaming and planning our home. Four months in we are now wandering around the rooms, opening and closing doors and dreaming of fresh, clean décor. Our days off are spent flicking through Home Beautiful and Real Living magazines, and wandering aimlessly around in Bunnings and Beacon Lighting getting prices. Neither Mark nor I can make decisions on anything, so we always leave empty handed, knowing we’ll have to return another day to do the whole thing again!

We’re now at the ‘fit’ stage. The tilers have done an awesome job {even with my crap taste in tiles} and the painter has started on the exterior render. The biggest surprise was the scaffolding has been removed. We can now see what we really ‘have’. I’m really happy with the views from the first floor. We were doubtful of the narrow windows {only size we could have due to the garage roof pitch}, but they’ve worked out perfectly. I will now sleep with a mountain behind me, which I’m told is good for you.

So what’s next? Electrical fit out, kitchen and bathrooms. Oh and to finish off the roof and theatre room – which caved in thanks to the huge amount of rain we’ve had recently!

I’ve received a few emails regarding bookings. At present I’m booked until June 2013. I have a list of local photographers I recommend. Please drop me an email and I can forward them on to you.

Ahh goodness, where is this year going? Please slow down 2013, I have a lot to do!

So with the kids finally back at school, the cyclones and bad weather easing and normality gradually settling in, the builders are back and they are really pushing through the workload. It’s so exciting to finish my day and head to site to see the progress. I haven’t really been able to take any ‘proper’ photographs, but here is a quick glimpse ‘IG’ style, along with some other hippy happy snaps of our daily lives.

I just wanted to add, thank you so much to Karla for your lovely email. I really, really hope you see this, as I’ve tried to respond to your email several times and it keeps on pinging back to me. Would love to catch up and chat over coffee, especially as we’re both building with plantation homes {and live so close}. Call me girl, or find me on Facebook!

Will try and get some proper photographs of house build soon, until then have a wonderful week everyone!

Watching families grow, both as a nurse and photographer is an amazing experience. I first met the gorgeous F family a few years ago when I was their nurse :) I think people always forget that I’m a nurse first then a photographer {yes nursing for me is ‘the’ passion, usually it’s the other way around}. Antenatal’s, vaccinating their little bubba’s and health checks, led to us becoming fabulous friends which ultimately led to family portrait sessions and even covering their wedding. So it was absolutely wonderful to be able to welcome the families fourth little bundle of love into our world. Congratulations F family, he is truly beautiful and is the perfect addition to your family. I cannot wait to continue documenting your life. The past few years have gone oh so quickly.

Here are just a few images taken from our very unique morning at the lake, and also a few of the lovely little man himself. It was amazing to get there so early in the morning and be totally surrounded by swirling mist. So serene and peaceful. Lake Weyba is an incredible special place to both of our families, so it was the obvious choice for Miss J’s first session at 30 weeks. You can see the families last family session here. Thank you again F family, it was an absolute pleasure as always, and I look forward to watching you all ‘grow’ xxxxx

It was a very busy morning in the F household when I arrived, but I did manage to get a few images of breakfast time. I have to say the F family is the most organised family EVER! So impressed. Wish my parental skills were as good as yours Miss J!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

{I shouted that as I typed it – wahoo}!!

Well two thousand and twelve was certainly a year for moving forward, pushing the creative boundaries and achieving fabulous things, both professionally and personally. I am so grateful for all the support I’ve received from clients, family and friends. You are all uh-mazing! I am looking forward to 2013, not only because I have some wonderful and interesting new projects to do, but also because our home will be complete. Our builders are having a little siesta before the next stage, possibly because my husband has been supplying them with copious amounts of beer in the form of Summers XXXX :) If we don’t have straight walls, I will blame the husband :) But the break has given us a chance to sneak in and have a good walk around the house, and of course, plan! I’m such a ‘list’ girl, I make lists purely for the joy of crossing everything off, it’s such a sense of achievement. So, over the Christmas break, I sat down with a glass of wine, a pencil and drawing pad, and started ‘dreaming’ and planning the interior design. My board on Pinterest has never looked so good! I’ve spent hours recently pinning everything I love to my ‘home’ board.

So here is the stage we’re at now, tadarrrrrr - we have a house and bricks, yup I’m easily pleased :) And our natural ‘panoramic’ window has worked out a treat. Such an amazing view of Mt Cooroy to wake up too every day. So very blessed.

Now I know I should really be blogging some of the wonderful sessions I’ve done recently {seriously I worked right up until Christmas Eve}, and I know I have a few eager families waiting to see their sneak peeks, but this is my on line journal so I do want to document this next stage, mainly for my gorgeous family in the UK. I hope you understand.

So now to the nitty gritty! Planning the interior. I’m having huge amounts of fun with this, and have found some wonderful places for furniture, both locally and online. My ‘wish’ list is ever growing. My home inspiration board is looking rather lovely. Images are from Pinterest, you can find the links HERE

I’m looking forward to making more lists, and shopping {and working to pay for the shopping}! Eek! I think at this rate, I’ll be working until I’m 100!
